how to create a group on roblox

The Roblox group games feature allows multiple developers to work on the same game, use the same assets, share profits, and give credit to all contributors.

Creating a New Group

It costs 100 to create a group. To begin:

  1. Visit the Create Group page and fill in the requested details (Name and Emblem are required).
  2. Click the green button to create the new group.

Roles and Permissions

Configuring Roles

As a group's owner, you can configure roles for other members in your group as follows:

  1. Click the button in the upper-right corner and select Configure Group.

  1. In the left column, select the Roles tab.

  1. Once there, note the default roles of Owner, Admin, Member, and Guest (these names/descriptions can be changed, and additional roles can be created for 25). Each role can be assigned a Rank value between 0 and 255, where 255 is the highest.
  2. To help keep your group safe and protect the group's creations, you should carefully inspect and toggle on/off the logical permissions for each role.

Assigning Roles

If you're the group owner or have been assigned to a role with the correct permissions by the group owner, you can edit another member's role as follows:

  1. In the left column, select the Members tab.

  1. Using the drop-down menu below each group member, select a role. Note that you can only change the role of users that are currently in roles ranked lower than yours, and you can only promote users to roles ranked lower than your own.

Publishing Group Places

If you're the group owner or a member with the Create and edit group games permission, you can publish a group place as instructed below.

Publish as New Game

  1. Select FilePublish to Roblox to open the publishing window.
  2. Near the bottom of the window, click Create new game... .

  1. Enter a place name and an optional description.
  2. For the Creator field, select the group for which you'd like to publish the place.
  3. When ready, click the Create button.

Publish to Existing Game

  1. Select FilePublish to Roblox to open the publishing window.
  2. Near the bottom of the window, click Update existing game... .

  1. Select a group from the drop-down menu.
  2. Click an existing place. Note that you'll have a choice to either:
    • Overwrite that place.
    • Overwrite another place within the same game.
    • Add the place you're publishing as a new place within the same game.

  3. On the next screen, click an existing place to overwrite it, or click the Add New icon.
  4. When ready, click the Overwrite or Create button.

Revenue Sharing

One of the primary benefits of publishing a group game is the ability to share game revenue quickly and easily. Group owners can pay contributors by either transferring group funds as a one-time payout or by scheduling recurring payouts. Roblox will conduct periodic verification of funds to prevent fraud and abuse, at which time payout functionality may not be available.

Payouts are managed through RevenuePayouts on the group's admin page.

One-Time Payout

Group owners may distribute a one-time transfer of Robux to a single group member or multiple members. This payout can be either a lump sum or a percentage of the group's total funds.

  1. Select the One-time Payout tab.

  1. Use the drop-down menu to choose whether the payout is a set amount or a percentage of the group's total Robux balance.
  2. Add one or more payout recipients by clicking the Add Payout Recipient button.
  3. Next to each member, enter the amount or percentage you want to give to them. If you no longer wish to include them in the payout, click the "trash" button.
  1. Once everything looks correct, click Distribute.

Recurring Payout

Group owners can also set up recurring payouts to share profits automatically, as they are earned. Note that recurring transfers may be slightly delayed from the time funds are received until they are distributed to members.

  1. Select the Recurring Payout tab.

  1. Add one or more payout recipients by clicking the Add Payout Recipient button.
  2. Next to each member, enter the percentage of the group's Robux that you would like them to receive every month. If you no longer wish to include them in the payout, click the "trash" button.
  1. Once everything looks correct, click Save.

Safety in Group Games

When creating a Roblox game with others, note that members with the Create and edit group games permission can change the Allow Copying setting for a creation. Safety and IP protection in group games can be improved by following a few simple tips:

  • Group Owners — Make sure that each group role has the correct permissions. If a role is intended for somebody who simply promotes your game on social media, it should not have the Create and edit group games permission enabled.

  • Group Members — Ask the owner or higher-ranked members to assign all members to their proper role on the team. Also, if you have permission to create and edit group games, make sure that Allow Copying is disabled for a place before you add any sensitive IP to it.

Group ownership of games means developers can more easily collaborate and operate as independent game studios. If a conflict should arise within your group, however, Roblox will not help arbitrate or resolve disagreements. Any technical issues should obviously be reported, but any discord regarding how a group is run or organized must be settled among the group's members.
